It is often a difficult step that we take when we first decide to enter into a counselling/psychotherapeutic relationship. Through this ‘therapeutic relationship’, I hope to offer clients a safe place to explore and come to terms with the way they live their lives, relate to themselves and others. This can sometimes be challenging. However, the safe space provided by the therapist, enables the client to uncover both the positive and negative aspects of themselves. By becoming aware of the thought processes and behaviours that we have fallen into in the past, we recognise them more easily if they reoccur. This helps us to become more able to prevent ourselves from falling into the old ways of being. The exploration of these aspects of ourselves can provide the opportunity for change and in turn benefit our lives.
